Los Angeles Abdominoplasty - Los Angeles Tummy Tucks

Los Angeles abdominoplasty

Sometimes exercise is not enough to tighten loose abdominal muscles, especially after pregnancy or massive weight loss. If the skin around your tummy is loose and sagging, then a tummy tuck may be the best way to achieve a flatter, tighter midsection.

Dr. Aronowitz will evaluate your situation and help you determine whether or not a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is your best option. Liposuction may be recommended as a complimentary procedure to enhance the results of a tummy tuck. The goal is to have a smooth, flat tummy that blends with the rest of the body.

The Tummy Tuck Procedure

Abdominoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia at our Los Angeles facility. (Mini abdominoplasties can be performed under sedation and local anesthesia.)

Abdominoplasty is a multifaceted approach to recontouring the abdomen by addressing the issues of tummy bulging due to excess fat, muscle spread and or redundant tissue as seen post childbirth and or after a significant weight loss. Choosing the correct combination of procedures is decided during a thorough assessment with the surgeon and your realistic expectations will be addressed.

Types of Tummy Tucks

There are three types of tummy tucks, and Dr. Aronowitz will explain each procedure and help you determine the surgery that is right for you:

  • Standard Abdominoplasty - tightens all of the abdominal wall skin (standard scar)
  • Mini Abdominoplasty - tightens the lower abdominal wall skin only (shortest scar)
  • Extended Abdominoplasty - tightens the abdomen and the flanks or sides (longest scar extending around the flanks onto lower back)

Recovery from Tummy Tuck

Since abdominoplasty is one of the more uncomfortable plastic surgery procedures, post-operative skilled nursing care may be indicated. Recovery after a complete abdominoplasty is significantly longer than with less invasive procedures, often resulting in 3 to 4 weeks of post-operative tightness and soreness. Light activity is comfortable in 10 to 20 days, but heavier activity will not be comfortable for about 6 weeks. The resultant lengthy scar is usually hidden in the panty line providing a smooth contoured silhouette.

Complimentary Procedures

Additional procedures that may enhance the result of a tummy tuck are Liposuction, Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift, or Body Contouring.

Occasionally, if the abdominoplasty is being performed for medical reasons, the procedure may be partially covered by insurance. Usually, the patient is responsible for payment.

The specific risks and the suitability of tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) surgery can be determined only during your consultation with Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Aronowitz. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk, but major complications are unusual.
